The Knitters Mon. 01/19 - Tues. 01/20

Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day!

Today we mark the official start of the revamped Wuxtry blog. On Mondays we will highlight an upcoming show or two that deserve at least a little of your attention. Please visit this blog daily, as each day will have its own special feature.

When I searched for a clip of The Knitters on youtube, all I got were shaky hand-held camera recordings and knitting instructional videos. I won't waste your time with any of those, but the one good video of The Knitters cannot be embedded, so please take the time to check out the link of them playing "Burning House of Love" on The Letterman Show:

Exene Cervenka, John Doe, and DJ Bonebrake formed the pioneering country punk band The Knitters in 1982 as a side project of X (as if one influential punk band wasn't enough). The lineup was completed with the addition of Dave Alvin and Jonny Ray Bartel. They released only two albums with 20-year span in between them, the most recent one in 2005 entitled The Modern Sounds of The Knitters.
They're playing today and tomorrow at the Tractor Tavern along with Dead Rock West and Leila & Jon on Tueday, but if you can't make it, you should consider stopping by a record store and adding the two Knitters albums to your X collection.
(Tractor Tavern, 5213 Ballard Ave. NW,
8PM, $20, 21+)
